March 2011

The Mitchellville/ Bowie Section of the National Council of Negro Women, Inc., and the Center for Minorities in Science and Engineering (CMSE) at the University of Maryland-College Park will be hosting the 2011 Spring Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Expo on Saturday, March 5, 2011 from 9:30am – 4:00pm on the University of Maryland Campus

The STEM Expo is a free event designed to introduce students’ grades 3rd-12th to careers and educational opportunities in STEM fields. This event is open to any student, regardless of gender, race or ethnicity. Through hands-on activities, interactive workshops and seminars geared toward STEM, students will become aware of the importance of STEM education and its relationship to the success of the future workforce.

Our goal is to inspire and motivate students to pursue higher education to lead to exciting STEM careers. We believe that in order to succeed in the increasingly integrated global economy we must prepare our students to be technologically savvy. To ensure STEM activities/workshop s are successful, we have invited business leaders and companies interested in the development of a technically skilled labor force to attend and facilitate the workshops/seminars.

Please have your students pre-register online at (Go to the link Yahoo / Groups / AlHudaParents / Links / Science / Center for Minorities Science and Engineering) to ensure a spot is reserved for them! We wish you great success the remainder of this year and look forward to the participation of your students. Attached is a flyer with more information on the event.

Best regards,
